“Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest.”

Last year, alcohol-related crashes in Wisconsin killed 331 people and injured nearly 6,000. Drunken driving is a crime that devastates families and whole communities.

That’s why local law enforcement officials will be out in force from August 18 through the Labor Day holiday as part of a nationwide crackdown on impaired drivers called “Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest.”

Although drunken driving fatalities across the nation declined slightly in 2003 and 2004, alcohol-related fatalities are projected to increase in 2005, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

During the crackdown our message is simple.  No matter what you drive – a passenger car, pickup, sport utility vehicle or motorcycle – if we catch you driving impaired, we will arrest you.  No exceptions.  No excuses.  Far too many people still don’t understand that alcohol, drugs and driving just don’t mix.  Drunk driving is no accident—nor is it a victimless crime.  Too many lives are being lost so we will be out in force to stop it.

Please be aware of a number of scams currently happening in our area. Do not respond to emails or mailed information regarding foreign or out of state lotteries. If you did not buy a lottery ticket in another country or state, you can not win any monies.

There are also email notifications of lottery wins, mostly from Spain or foreign countries. These are also scams where you are asked for personal information or to send money to receive "your winnings".

Do not accept any offers to be a third party to cash checks, traveler's checks or other financical documents. The offer will say that you will receive a portion of the money if you cash the "checks" and send the money. The "checks" are bogus and, when found to be so, you will be responsible for any amount sent to the third party.

If you have any questions, please email or call the office and talk to an officer.

Thank you.

Hi all,

Last week we gave you information on a phone scam where the caller will ask for your bank account number.   A few days later one of our blockwatch subscribers was called.  I am happy to say that our subscriber immediatly realized what was going on and started to ask some questions.  The caller also realized what was going on and hung up.  This was smart thinking by our subscriber.  Good for them!!!!
I also received a call from  Kelly Mcginnis who works for the Consumer Protection Agency in Madison.  Kelly said that she heard the broadcast on her local news.  Kelly is working with the FBI in investigating similar scams.  She sent me a complaint form via e-mail and would like to have this filled out by anyone who gets solicitated by one of these scammers.  She also asked If anyone receives a call to try to get their phone number via "caller ID" or maybe *69.  If anyone has any questions about this, let me know.

Anyway I'm glad to see that these messages are being read.
Thanks for all of your concern.

Reported today:

Yesterday a citizen was contacted by phone by a woman asking to verify the citizen's checking account numbers. The woman had an accent and said she was verifying the account numbers for the computer. She said the bank was checking everyone in the Campbellsport area.

No specific bank was mentioned. The citizen did not give any account information.

None of the bank call you to verify account numbers. Please do not give out this information over the phone. You should call your bank to ask if there are any problems. Always report these incidents to the Police or Sheriff's Department.

Hello everyone,

I was told yesterday that someone is soliciting $ on behalf of the Campbellsport PD.  This is not true.  If anyone gets a phone call and the party wants you to donate to the PD, try to ask for more info from them and maybe get their phone #(caller id, or *69).  Then let the PD or the Fond du Lac Co Sheriff know.  Any questions, please call.  I only heard of 1 incident so far.

Thanks for all your concern,

A citizen reported that, last week, he received a call from a correctional facility. He hung up the phone, since he did not know any one in a correctional facility. Today, he saw on the news, that prisoners call to attempt to trap a phone number to use for charging phone calls.

Please report if you have any contact such as this. Write down the name of the correction facility so the Police can attempt to track the calls.
